Police or Law School.Word of Advice Please ?
Marbles22 asked:
I am currently a 4th year student at University of California, and want to attend law school. However, I have a very low GPA of 2.2 and haven’t taken the LSAT yet. After some research, I realized that my chances of getting into a law school is slim to non.
Therefore, I am asking for some experienced advices on whether I should join the local sheriff’s department, build some work experience, and then, apply to law schools. Is this a good career plan or am I just getting myself into something that is not possible?
I would greatly appreciate your sincere advice. Thank you.

You will learn a lot about law, but it will be through trail and error, and will take time. Plan on being in law enforcement for several years before you develop enough experience to get an edge in law school.
Law enforcement will eventually help you in your understanding. In addition, lots of departments will pay/or assist you in paying for your continuing education.
If you are in your fourth year make the decision now if you want to persue your law degree or law enforcement career asap. Either or will need a strong motivation and about a year. if you choose l.e. route while at the academy you must give it your all, or if you choose ppursuinglaw school you will need a year to measure and prepare for the LSAT. If you have to work get started with the applications and after a year when you get off probation, start preparing for llaw school Or if you an afford not to work, get tarted with a LSAT prep book and start taking LSAT prep classes.
great idea, but if you going on into the sheriff office be prepared to be physically fit,and also you should get on the sheriff office very easy cause
your degree(if you have one)can get you more money and great promotional opportunities.
hopes that helps
Your assumption about getting admitted to a law school is faulty. While you will never get in to a good school, or even the majority of schools, there are schools that will take damn near anyone who has the money to pay the tuition. No guarantee that you won’t flunk out, but there are schools that will admit you. The additional experience of working as a cop will not help much. On the other hand, if you went on to get a graduate degree, an MA for instance, and did spectacularly with that, that would offset your undergrad performance and increase your chances of admission to a law school.
Honestly, you will probably make more money as a Deputy Sheriff than you will as a lawyer. There are just too many lawyers and not enough jobs right now. If you can get into a decent department then you should.
